Language = power is a strawman. Population numbers are tilting away from imperialism as a language driver as nationalism re-emerges. So many people are sick of American influence.

In the US, the old expression for chaos also uses a train station, in this case, Grand Central Station (in New York). It’s gone out of favor; however, probably because there are so many chaotic places now, that Grand Central doesn’t stand out (I’m guessing). In any case, due to the extent of the British Empire, as well as its history of borrowed words from a variety of cultures, the standard English uses a lot of the types of words from around the world, discussed here as localized Englishes. Very interesting topic, thanks!

It's pity that English has become the global language. There are other languages like Indonesian which would've been much better. But only reason English is so widespread is because of colonialism. It's neither an easy language to learn nor is it very beautiful. And don't get me started on the spelling ...

Learn and teach the correct way first, then allow for modern adaptations once it's mastered. It remains that British RP is the superior and most understandable accent. This man is very smart, but he strikes me as someone who wants to remain relevant by embracing modern language. English language has peaked. Where we go from here is gobbledegook. The fast changes that occur on the internet are a result of laziness and ignorance. I'm not sure we should encourage it.

Probably atleast until it merges with another language or morphs into something else entirely. A few reasons (in my eyes) 1) Chinese (the main competition) is far too complicated for most people to learn. 2) English already incorporated multiple different languages into itself with many words. 3) Existing documentation. Obviously this is a big one, just the act of changing the status quo is a massive endeavor. 4) It uses a more common alphabet as opposed to Asian styled writing which is something else entirely. 5) China probably won't beat the US in terms of global influence in the next few decades as originally predicted due to some disastrous policies hurting it's rapidly aging population. Spanish vs English on the other hand is a much harder discussion. But it's ultimately the same result. Spanish doesn't have a major nation pushing it's use like China or the US. Hell there's gonna be more Spanish speakers in the US than anywhere else soon depending on who you ask.

@@ricardoheurich7824 only 600 characters. If you learn English, you have to know a lot of random spellings. Chinese character: 1 character=1 sound=1 meaning. I suppose you have to know other languages, such as Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Israel. They do not use Latin alphabet.
